The Richmond Kickers orchestrated some unexpected upsets on their way to the fourth game in the US Open Cup.  In their third meeting ever with Columbus Crew SC they entered the match 1-1 in the series with the Kickers holding the last victory of a 2-1 W at Richmond 4 years ago.

Richmond’s starting line up was shaken up due to injuries on the Kickers roster and several key players watched from the sidelines as other players took their place on the pitch.  Columbus was first on the board with a goal from #25 Adam Bedell with an assist from #17 Ben Speas in the 18th minute.  Richmond gained momentum as the team worked the ball down the pitch and attempted to answer back in the 22nd minute but the kick sailed just over the cross bar.  Shortly after Columbus fouled and the resulting free kick and goal from #4 Owusu Sekyere tied the game in the 23rd minute.  The Crew added a second goal from #13 Ethan Finlay in the 41st minute and it was a 1-2 advantage for Columbus at the end of the half.

The sole goal of the second half was from the first scorer Bedell with an assist from #6 Tony Tchani which sealed the win for Columbus and advances them to the 5th game of the US Open Cup.  Richmond plays their next USL match versus the Wilmington Hammerheads FC on June 20th at 7pm.
