Richmond Kickers 2-1 in Series with Charlotte Independence

The Richmond Kickers logged their third consecutive win and their second in the series against the Charlotte Independence on June 7.  The final score was 2-1 with the Kickers scoring both goals in the first half and Independence scoring the solitary goal of the second. Richmond is now 5-2-4 for the 2015 season.

During the first half both teams came out swinging resulting in 2 yellow cards issued to Charlotte (#23 Martinez and #2 Jerome) and 1 to Richmond (# 28 Asante) and very aggressive play throughout. Play would settle slightly during the second half with a single yellow card issued to Charlotte (#14 Cox).  Both teams ended the game with 9 fouls.

The Kickers took the lead early with an unassisted goal by #17 Jason Yeisley just 2 minutes into play.  The second goal came from their leading scorer #7 Matthew Delicate in the 20th minute off an assist from Yeisley.  Goal keeper Ryan Taylor added 2 saves to his record bringing him to 23 in his 5 games this season.

Charlotte scored their only goal during the second half courtesy of  #10 Jorge Herrara off an assist from #23 Alex Martinez in the 61st minute. Charlotte goal keeper Michael Lisch (on loan from the Houston Dynamo) demonstrated his defensive skills with an impressive 5 saves against Richmond during his first game with the team.

The Kickers hit the road for their next match with the Charleston Battery on June 10 before returning home to face FC Montreal on June 13.
